Reptar

What is reptar? Who are they? Where did they come from? No one knows.

Perhaps they fell from the sky, torched in fire, ready to fill the ears of everyone on Earth with optimistic, electro-dance-sex pop.  Perhaps they shot out of the ocean, draped in seaweed, bouncing off the waves, and just happened land on a guitar.  Perhaps they really should have been politicians.  Whatever their origin was, their music will joygasm your soul.

I remember the first time I heard about reptar.  I was in Athens for Athfest 2011.  They were playing at the 40 watt on the last night I was in Athens.  I wanted to go, but once again, they were beyond capacity.  Needless to say, I didn't like the fact that I couldn't see them, so I always told people that it wasn't worth it to see them.  I still hadn't heard their music.

The first time I heard their music, I listened to the song Blast Off.  I remember thinking, "I really havn't heard anything like this before."  I was a newbie to the idea of Indie Rock.  I was stuck.  I loved them.

For any first time listeners, I urge you to listen to their music.  Lend your ears to 1) Blast Off 2) Rainbounce 3) Houseboat Babies 4) Stuck in my ID and 5) Cannabis Canyon.  If these songs don't break your soul open and ooze every ounce of dance you have onto the floor... then you might be a cyborg, or perhaps def.

Don't wait.  Do it now. Seriously, this is how babies are made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG4dLtVmap4

I appreciate all of the 8 people that read this post.  I bid you good day, and I hope you fall in love with this band.

Mumford & Sons

An awe inspiring band, to say the least.  I have never heard a band like this.  Every aspect of their sound appeals to me.  They combine a soaring, peaceful folk sound with a serene, organic acoustic overlay that is simply perfect.  Even though the sound is perfect, it wouldn't be anything without the lyrics that are added to it.  Their message that is attached to each song echos in my mind.
For a music lover such as myself, I find it very difficult to put a genre on this band.  I continue to try, but the only genre that comes to mind is a visual band.  When I hear this music, it simply makes me want to look at old pictures and reflect upon how I have become the person that I am today.  I also listen to this band on my iPod before I go to sleep a lot of the time.  It's amazing how easily I fall asleep to this music.  It's like a lulliby to peace.
So...yea.  There are 4 people in this band...I think.  I'm sure they have some guests every now and then, but for all intensive purposes, I say 4.  Therefore, 4 is right, because I said so.
I mean... come on.  Does that not look like a band that you would find on some corner in New Orleans?  Then, you give them a chance, and you're like "O my god.  This is the greatest band in the history of history!"  Yea.  It's amazing.  They literally give me faith and challenge my musicianship.  < I'm pretty sure that's a word.
One of the greatest memories I have with this band is in Costa Rica.  I was sitting on the front porch of the Ecolodge in MonteVerde.  I found this guitar and started playing some Mumford & Sons.  A good bit of people knew the music I was playing, and they started singing with me.  It was beautiful.  I wish I had a voice like the lead singer of this band.  His pitch is practically perfect.  I envy that type of voice.
Rumors have it that later in this year they're going to release a new CD.  I can't wait for that CD if they do release it.
Well...I'm out.  Always double bag it.  Later

The Drills

The Drills are an amazing band from Las Angeles, highlighted by the always sexy Phil X from frettedamericana.  Go check out their youtube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/frettedamericana.  Their videos are always amazing and it's always fun to watch Phil X dominate some old school guitars.
If you ever wondered what a band that dominates rock the way it should be dominated sounds like, listen to The Drills.
The Drills combine hilarious relationship humor into hard rocking, headbanging awesomeness.  If you ever had a thought that a girl/guy was crazy, this music will blow your mind.  Not to mention their logo...
Is that not the greatest band logo you've ever seen?  I want one of their shirts.
If you're looking for some songs, look no further...I've gotcha. 1) Beautiful Apartment 2) I wish my beer was as cold as your heart 3) Middle Finger 4) Air Hockey Champion of the World.
Each of those songs is straight to the point of awesomeness with both the lyrics and the instruments. I'll occasionally be in a bad mood and I'll go on youtube and watch Phil X dominate some guitars and simply be crazy and I always get happier after seeing him play.
Go get some Drills in ya, and I'll see ya later.

The Orkids

This band has changed my life recently.  I still remember the first time I ever heard of them.  I was watching their music video of "What is it with me?", which by the way is an amazing song, go listen to it, and I immediatly fell in love witht his band.  Whenever I hear their music, I am often times nastalgic about the past, and optimistic about the future.  It's a very bizarre thing how this band makes me feel, but go listen to them yourself and see how they effect you.
This band combines sexy techno, old school seductive lyrics, enticing guitar and never ending catchy beats.  There is also some strange combination of punk and rock, and something else I simply can't describe it.  All I know is, this band is awesome.
Songs you HAVE TO LISTEN TO: "What is it with me"  "Told you so"  "Paper Dolls"  "Impetus".  O yes.  These songs should jumpstart your interest to a point of opsession like I had with them.
I met their lead singer, Sandra Gallardo at the 40 watt about a week ago, and she is simply pleasant and hillarius.  Her new haircut was absoultely amazing, and she rocks it so well.  I didn't have the chance to meet any other members of the band, but I have heard nothing but great things about them, and if they are any thing like Sandra, I'm sure that being around this band at all would be a great opportunity to make some epic friends.
Definitely check out their facebook, and I'm sure they have a myspace(If that's still around), and support them all you can.  Now, time to go study for my finals...later

Bands Worth Seeing

Bambara
Bambara is a mix of awesome, rock, awesome, screaming, and more awesome.  The first time I saw them at Caledonia in Athens, I knew I had made a good decision to go.  Bambara combines a sexy arrangement of psychedlic noise and loud punk.  There is such a hypnotic feel to their music I often drift off to a far distant land of magic when I listen to their music.  If you like loud, awesome, and down right mesmarizing music, go see Bambara.  Also, enjoy watching Blaze on the drums.  He has 8 arms.

Lazer/Wulf

Imagine if Metallica met Pantera and they had a baby...Yea, that's Lazerwulf.  A band of this talent and pure power deserves the applause of a nerdy blogger, and that's what I shall give to them.  *Breaks for applause*  I must say, I was blown away by the guitarist in this band.  Bryan combines hard rocking licks with some impressive jazz-like chops as well.  As for the drummer and basist... a deaf person would love their beats.  If you can't tell, I love Lazer/wulf, and I'm not afraid to admit it.

Manray
Do you like pop and rock?  If so, you will fall head over heals for Manray.  Their experimental/rock/punk/pop combination of everything awesome is an interesting blend of music that is more than refreshing to hear.  Some call them a "math" music band, but I never really liked that term.  Rather, I tend to see their music as a very creative blend of rythms and guitar licks that only are possible by talented musicians.  These guys have been playing together since they first picked up instraments, and each member has a passion for their instrament.  In particular, I am in love with their lead guitarist Gene.  For now, he is my favorite guitarist in Athens.  I really desire to see them again, and believe me, when they play again, I will be there.
